End affordable, subsidized housing for cars
Donald Shoup finds that the subsidy for free parking for cars is the largest subsidy in America. Local governments should be prohibited from requiring new developments to provide their own parking in urban areas. Tax write-offs should be reformed to dramatically increase the use of parking cash-out so that commuters other than motorists are subsidized when they travel to work. As much parking as possible should be market-priced.
